great blue heron tile
2009's Collectors Tile is a benefit for the Audubon Society of Rhode Island. A portion of the proceeds from every tile sold will go directly to supporting the many environmental education programs led by The Society. Each tile is made from high fire porcelain, embossed with the pattern in low relief, then hand dipped in a glaze formulated to pool and accentuate the design. Every tile is signed and dated. The tile comes with cork feet on its back so it works great as a trivet or simply hung on the wall with a plate hanger as a decorative accent to any room. $35- 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 3/8"

The familiar Great Blue Heron is the largest heron in North America colored with a slate-gray body along with chestnut and black accents. It is known for it’s long legs and neck. It is found in a range of habitats, in fresh and saltwater marshes, mangrove swamps, flooded meadows, lake edges, or shorelines, It is always near bodies of water, usually nesting in trees or bushes. The primary food for Great Blue Heron is small fish. It feeds in shallow water or at the water's edge during both the night and the day, but especially around dawn and dusk. The Great Blue Herons build a bulky stick nest, and the female lays three to six pale blue eggs. One brood is raised each year. If the nest is abandoned or destroyed, the female may lay a replacement clutch. Reproduction is negatively affected by human disturbance, particularly during the beginning of nesting. Repeated human intrusion into nesting areas often results in nest failure, with abandonment of eggs or chicks. Providing safe nesting ground for The Great Blue Heron is just one small part of the mission that is carried out by The Audubon Society of Rhode Island. Roseberry-Winn is happy to help support The Society with our 2009 Collectors Tile, The Great Blue Heron.

All glazes are non-toxic and safe for the dishwasher and microwave.
